Analysis of Bernie Sander's signature

Bernie Sanders was one of last three contenders in the last presidential election. Since he was rather popular then and is still now quite so, I thought I would attempt to figure out why he appealed too so many voters.

  • The capital letters are significantly greater in size than the midzone letters. This could be due to confidence/pride and perhaps according to some graphologists, an emphasis on the abstract. Compared to Trump he was more preoccupied with abstract matters such as morality. He felt the there should be greater equality and the inequality was due to a lack of morals on the part of the rich and powerful.
  • The midzone letters are illegible to a degree and that is often due to the speed of writing and perhaps a lack of carefulness. He was known for being authentic and the illegibility supports this to a degree. People who write slower (Clinton) tend to be more self conscious and perhaps less authentic.
  • The writing is slightly angular but not to the degree of Trumps. This suggests a moderate degree of aggression and energy but not excessive. He generally seemed friendly but became more aggressive/forceful when focusing on certain issues.
  • The slant is slightly to the right which according to many graphologist might indicate enthusiasm and friendliness.
  • Since his name is equal in size to the last, he sees himself as equal to his family.
  • The ending stroke on the last name is done in a rather efficient and forceful manner.
  • His overall signature gives the impression of someone who is mainly preoccupied with getting things done in an authentic manner. This is supported to to a degree by Celebrity types(idrlabs.com) which quotes the New York times. New York Times: "He likes to hit lots of meetings, quick, businesslike transactions." Sanders: "[When I am met with] stupid criticism ... [I] respond immediately and forcefully. ... [I] will not allow [myself] to be on the defensive."
According to this site he is typed as some one who has ENTJ preferences.

Handwriting analysis of Donald Trump

I don't agree with this graphologist. Sharp points don't necessarily indicate high intelligence.

Since Donald Trump has recently won the presidential election I thought I would try to analyze his handwriting and compare with Clinton. He is known as a great promoter and businessman. For the most part his business consists of promoting his name for buildings and this preoccupation is evident in his signature.

  • Of the three zones the midzone is dominate which can indicate a focus or preoccupation with the present moment. This is supported by his Twitter usage. Twitter is a social media site where the more popular tweets change on the hour.
  • One graphologist, Shelia Lowe, says that a dominate midzone suggests the person isn't interested in the abstract or planning. He/she is primarily interested in taking action and not why things happen. This fits Trump quite well.
  • The midzone letters are quite angular and this according to most graphologists is a sign of aggression. Trump is known for being contentious and litigious.
  • Due to his predominate midzone I wouldn't say he is overly egotistical or overly confident. Perhaps his bravado is somewhat of an act? Hillary Clinton's signature shows more confidence and ego.
  • The slant is up and down and this indicates reserve and coolness. He isn't one to let his heart rule his head.
  • The letters are very compressed and this indicates some stress or tension. One graphologist named Shelia Lowe says this suggests impetuousness and someone who overreacts to everything. This person desperately wants to be accepted.
  • The fact that the first name is enmeshed in the last is interesting. This might indicate he is very close to his family almost to the point where he doesn't make a distinction. This could be why he wants his relatives to be with him in the white house.
  • At the end of the last name there is a stroke that comes back over the last name in a protective way. One graphologist suggests this might indicate a desire to draw attention to self.
  • The writing is on the pasty side which can mean a preoccupation with sensuality.
  • Donald and Trump are the same size which means he doesn't see himself as more important than his family.
The overall impression of his handwriting reminds me of Himmler who I believe was one of Hitler's generals. I think Germans at that period in time tended to more of an angular style of writing. Trump's preoccupation with aggression and the military might support this to a degree.

Analysis of Hillary Rodham Clinton

It is rumored that Hillary Clinton will possibly run again for president and I thought some people might be interested in an analysis of her writing.

  • The uppercase is considerably developed in comparison to the other zones in her handwriting. This could indicate pride and perhaps confidence.
  • The slant is very upright and according to most graphologists this indicates a very reserved individual.
  • There is no loop on the y in Hillary. This type of y is very efficient and lacks feeling.
  • The H is the largest of the three names which might mean she thinks the most highly about herself.
  • The writing generally lacks loops which gives the signature a wooden appearance. A lack of loops equals efficiency,a lack of warmth and perhaps inflexibility.
  • The "in" Clinton is threadlike which is often seen in executives/diplomats who are a hard to pin down. Since this appears in the name Clinton it might possibly mean she might be evasive regarding her family.
  • Many letters in the middle of the names are oversimplified which means she is not a detail minded person.
  • The middle case has many angular strokes which indicates an analytical and argumentative mind.
  • Overall form her signature she appears be efficient, intelligent, reserved and confident

The Presidential Candidate's Signatures

I thought it might be interesting to use graphology to examine the two presidential candidate's signatures.

Obama:

  • The upper zone is very developed which can indicate pride, over sensitivity in regards to intellectual capacity, and or a general interest in abstract matters
  • The writing is fairly rounded which usually signifies agreeability/a relaxed attitude
  • The down stroke on k and b are very firmly made. This could indicate firmness or stubbornness
  • Most of the "a"s and "o"s are fairly open which means he has an communication style.
  • The ending stroke on "Obama" signifies assertiveness
  • An upright slant equals a cool objective outlook but it can be indecisive at times.
  • His writing has a print script style which means he uses a combination of logic and intuition.
  • The most interesting thing about his signature is the fact that the line for b intersects the capital "O". This has been interpreted different ways by graphologists. One suggested that since it divided the "O" into equal parts it signified a interest in equality however many graphology books say that any stroke that appears to cancel another is a form of anger towards self. Since the last name symbolizes one's family/parent and we know he had somewhat of a difficult relationship with his father, it could be interpreted as anger at his father. In addition the "B" of Barack is made larger which might indicate that he thinks more of himself than his father.

Romney:
  • A right slant indicates decisiveness, emotion, and someone who is more action orientated.
  • He has a somewhat angular style which means he might be more intractable in an argument.
  • "Romney" not as legible could indicate a less than transparent communication style. This is often seen in administrators/doctors/diplomats. Illegibility essentially says that they don't care whether you can read it or not.
  • The "y" formation is made in an efficient, determined yet not friendly manner. Lower loops usually signify our unconscious attitudes toward sex/relationships and the leftward direction of the lower stroke could mean that this lack of agreeableness/anger is somehow rooted in the past.
  • The "t" bar essential dots the i and crosses the "t" which signifies a very efficient mind. The "t" bar is also higher than normal which could mean an interest in abstract matters.
  • The capitals of "Mitt" and "Romney" are the same high height indicating he has equal regard for himself and family.
  • The writing has relatively greater pastiosity(thickness of stroke) than Obama's which according to most books is another indicator of emotion.
  • The midzone is larger than Obama's and this could signify more attention to the present and greater practicality.
Overall Obama has a more professorial feel to his signature while Romney has a more zealous one. If these two would debate I would anticipate Romney being the one who would go more on the attack but then that usually is the job of the non-incumbent.

A Beautiful Mind

Einstein was considered to be a genius and consequently many graphologists reference his handwriting when considering intelligence. I haven't seen enough evidence yet  to be confident that intelligence can be measured by handwriting. From personal experience, intelligent people's handwriting can differ considerably from Einstein's. One example that comes to mind would be a person who scored the highest nationwide on the PSAT in my high school. His rather large and unattractive handwriting hardly resembled Einstein's. On the other hand one can measure attributes such as efficiency, maturity, general overall health and concentration which all correlate somewhat with intelligence or a high functioning individual.

A few comments about Albert Einstein's signature.
  • Despite the stereotype of the dispassionate scientist, Einstein's writing has a slight rightward slant which indicates enthusiasm and emotion.
  • In this particular signature the upper zone is more predominate in regards to size and embellishment, compared to the rest of his signature. Since the upper zone is associated with the intellect and spirituality one can deduce that he placed more importance on those things than on more practical matters.
  • His writing is predominately garland/angular which indicates a mind that is fairly aggressive regarding his approach to life however not to the point where he was inflexible. Angularity signify aggression while garland connections signify receptiveness. The faster a person writes and hence thinks, the more writing tends to be contain garland/thread like strokes. Arcade strokes tend to slow the speed down considerably.
  • The arching t bar shows discipline in intellectual manners since it is placed in the upper zone. Arcade strokes usually signify control or concealment.
  • Capitals, paprticularily the E, is unique and embellished to a degree which indicates pride, confidence. The signature however generally is rather unadorned which signifies humility.
  • The writing deviates to a minor degree from copybook indicating a minor degree of creativity and individuality. Studies have shown that geniuses need to have a certain threshold of intelligence along with a certain degree of creativity.
  • The A is constructed efficiently with no departure from the paper in order to cross the A.
  • The stroke of his signature has some pastiosity. A high degree of pastiosity, which has a lot to do with pen choice, is often seen in more sensual people such as artists.
  • His mid zone is relatively small and generally(not in this sample) in proportion to the rest of the handwriting. According to many graphology books this signifies a person with good concentration.

Overall his handwriting gives the appearance of balance in regards to many graphological indicators. Somewhat surprising since most of us associate eccentricity and imbalance with a genius like mind.
